John Dane III and his son-in-law Austin Sperry sail the two-man Star boat and are competing in their first Olympic Sailing Regatta at the 2008 Games in Qingdao, China. Fifty-eight-year-old Dane is the oldest member of the whole U.S. Olympic delegation, and has tried to get to the Olympics since his first campaign in 1968. He and his son-in-law, Austin Sperry, have been sailing together since 2005. Sperry is married to Dane's daughter, Sally, and was a training partner for the 2004 Olympic Star sailing representative.
